And just like that, 2018 has come to a screeching halt. This year started out by dragging its feet but then felt like it was a mad dash to the finish line the past two or three months. Did it sneak up on anyone else, too?
In part II of this post, I’m going to look back at 2018 and re-examine some of the goals I set out to accomplish last year and see how I stacked up. As for now, here are my goals looking onward towards 2019:
Read more. I love buying books. I’m constantly adding to my reading list and on the hunt for a good one to add. My problem is then making the time to actually crack them open and read them. Getting in the practice of reading before heading to bed will be a really great way to make a dent into my book list and help with the next goal…
No phones in bed. This might be the 3rd year running that this goal has appeared on my New Years list, and every year I don’t even make it into February before I break it. But I think it’s important to keep trying as I think it’s one of the unhealthiest things I do and know I miss out on reading a good book, or additional sleep.
Volunteer. I’ve really been wanting to expand my work with charities & non-profits. This year I’m going to be collaborating and working for more organizations that I feel are doing important and charitable work in the LGBTQ+ space and working towards ending homelessness in NYC + Los Angeles.
Reach out. Keeping up with friends is nearly a part-time job if you don’t live in the same city as them. Moving to New York, it’s even hard seeing and keeping up with friends when we *do* live in the same city. So my goal is when I think of a friend, text them. Tell them I miss them and see what is going on in their life. If I’ve got 10-minutes to spare, pick of the phone and give them a call. It’s the least I can do.
Sweat once a day. Another goal of mine for 2019 is to break a sweat at least once a day. It doesn’t have to be a full workout or running a marathon, but at least the intention is there. I know myself and if I force myself to the gym, I’m there. And I’ll get a workout in. most of the problem lies in just getting myself to the gym. While traveling, I love to go on a run to explore a new city or neighborhood that I’m staying in but find myself making excuses.
To get a headstart on my sweat goal this year, I just picked up a new pair of Addidas UltraBOOST from Finish Line. These running shoes are the definition of lightweight support. Sometimes with lighter running shoes, I feel like they can forfeit stability – but that’s not the case with the UltraBOOSTs. They’ve got a primeknit upper that allows for your feet to breathe and they will expand naturally with your foot. The molded heel features a Torsion System that allows for additional stability. Not only are they great running shoes, but I’ve also been enjoying putting around town with them.
