Throughout this summer I’m working with GQ to highlight GQ + Gap’s annual #GQxGAP Best New Menswear Designers in America that will be launching at Gap in September. This month I’m styling a simple but elevated tee from Steven Alan and pairing it with some great denim pieces from Gap for a rugged and work-ready look.
The ‘plain white tee’ is a blank canvas, and can be fashioned in so many styles and ways. You can throw it on with athletic shorts for quick errand runs, or slip it under a sports jacket with jeans for a slick upscale look. It’s a staple in every man’s closet and can’t go out of style. I wore my Steven Alan white Slub Pocket Tee which has a straight fit with a crew neck and a patch pocket on the chest. It’s ultra soft with a Japanese slub cotton and has that worn-in feel. I paired it with another item that’s already in your closet – the workman’s denim.
Gap offers quite a range of denims, but to complete this more rugged-look, the 1969 Destructed Skinny Jean was a perfect fit. Literally. It’s got quite a bit of stretch, which is crucial when I’m going to wear a denim that is skinnier throughout the leg. It allows more mobility and allows me to pull my phone out of my pocket with ease. I also threw on a 1969 Utility Denim Shirt from Gap over my tee as an added layer and great piece to have heading into the fall. My boots are from Australian-based Blundstone, and are a perfect blend of a functional work boot and stylish chelsea boot.
The complete Best New Menswear Designers in America All-Stars collection will be hitting Gap this fall, so stay tuned as a I preview a few more pieces from selected menswear designers! Would love to know which piece has been your favorite – or how you would of styled them differently.
